Fasting and Prayer: A Pathway to Favor with People

"In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels wherever He pleases." (Proverbs 21:1)

Are you facing challenges in your relationships, at work, or with authorities? Do you feel blocked or misunderstood despite your best efforts? Seeking God through fasting and prayer is one of the powerful ways to overcome these obstacles and gain favor in the eyes of people.

You might wonder why you struggle with others even while seeking God. There could be several reasons: perhaps you need God’s grace to walk in humility, self-control, compassion, or in valuing others—essentially, a tuning of character. Or perhaps you are in a spiritual battle where the enemy is setting up blockages to hinder your progress in your God-given destiny. Whatever the reason, fasting and prayer help. They help align your heart, break spiritual bondages, and influence the hearts of authorities in your favor.

Jesus demonstrated the ultimate example, living a life of prayer and fasting (Matthew 4:1–2). He fasted forty days before His ministry. He grew in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52). If Jesus needed favor to fulfill His purpose on earth, we certainly need it in our daily lives to fulfill ours.

The Bible shows us clear examples of how fasting and prayer bring favor with people, especially authorities:

Esther prayed and fasted for three days with her maids and cousin Mordecai to prevent the destruction of the Jews (Esther 4:16). Through her faithfulness, she found favor in King Ahasuerus’ eyes, saving both her life and the lives of her people.

Daniel was a man of prayer and also refused the king’s delicacies in order to honor God (Daniel 1:8). As a slave, this decision could have led to trouble, but God gave him favor with the chief officer. Eventually, he found favor with all the kings he served, proving that God honors faithfulness and obedience.

Nehemiah mourned the ruined state of Jerusalem and fasted while praying to God (Nehemiah 1:4). Because of his devotion, favor came from the king, granting him leave from his service, resources, and support to rebuild the walls of the city.

These examples show us that God works through prayer and fasting to release favor, even in challenging situations. The Bible records these incidents for our encouragement (Romans 15:4). The same God who helped Esther, Daniel, and Nehemiah is willing to work in your life. Whether the challenge you face is personal like Esther’s, professional like Daniel’s, or related to Kingdom service like Nehemiah’s — or perhaps a combination of these — the Lord is eagerly waiting to release His blessing upon you so that you may gain favor in the eyes of the concerned people.

Remember, favor is not just for extraordinary people; it is for those who seek God sincerely and live in obedience. Fasting and prayer cultivate humility, strengthen faith, and create spiritual alignment with God’s purposes. Through them, the Lord can open doors, influence the hearts of others, and release blessings that human effort alone cannot achieve.

May God bless you richly as you commit to seeking Him through fasting and prayer.

Lord Jesus, I come to You asking for favor in my situation [mention your specific situation here]. I believe that when I seek You wholeheartedly, You will answer. As I commit myself to fasting and prayer, grant me the grace to gain favor in the eyes of people, especially in this situation. Thank You for answering my prayer. Amen!
