That Problem Is Not Unto Your Harm

“Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta ... Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand ... But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.”

Are you currently facing a challenge and wondering why it happened? Have you ever found yourself in a difficult situation despite simply trying to do what is right? Perhaps you reached out to help someone, only to find yourself entangled in a struggle of your own.

Take heart, my dear friend. The problem you are facing is not meant for your harm. God will turn this circumstance around for your good, bringing ultimate glory to His Name.

In Acts 28, we read of the Apostle Paul’s experience on the island of Malta. Paul arrived there following a terrifying shipwreck; he was on that ship because he had been imprisoned for the sake of the Gospel. Despite these setbacks, God had already promised that he would stand before Caesar in Rome.

The journey was filled with difficulty. A violent storm led to a shipwreck that put everyone’s life in peril. Yet, God used Paul to encourage his fellow travelers, assuring them that not a single life would be lost. After reaching the shores of Malta, everyone on board gathered around a fire to escape the cold. As Paul collected firewood and placed it on the flames, a viper, driven out by the heat, suddenly fastened itself onto his hand.

Remarkably, Paul did not give in to fear or panic. He simply shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.

The onlookers expected a tragic outcome, and the islanders immediately assumed that Paul must be a criminal. They knew nothing of his calling or the reason for his chains, yet they were quick to judge.

It is noteworthy that Paul did not defend himself. He trusted that God would vindicate him, realizing that his mission was not to prove himself but to share the love of Christ.

When Paul remained unharmed, the people’s perception shifted entirely. Those who had judged him now viewed him with awe, which opened their hearts to his message. Paul humbly utilized this opportunity to share the Gospel and minister healing to the islanders. God transformed a moment of condemnation into a powerful season of ministry.

My dear friend, you may currently be enduring a similar trial. Perhaps you feel misunderstood, criticized, or unfairly judged. However, you do not need to defend yourself. Remain humble under the mighty hand of God. In due season, He will turn the tide in your favor and exalt you in the presence of those who spoke against you.

In the meantime, examine your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to refine you from anything that does not please Him. Stay humble, be sensitive to His voice and remain obedient, for our love for Him is best demonstrated through our faithfulness to His Word.

Submit yourself fully to Him and acknowledge Him in all that you do. In the very place where you experienced shame or despair, God will bring honor and restoration. What the enemy intended for evil, God will surely use for your good and His eternal glory.

God bless you!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come before You today, placing my challenging situation at Your feet. I ask for Your divine intervention in this matter. Grant me Your grace to endure this season with patience and a Christ-like attitude until I see the promise fulfilled, so that Your name may be glorified through my life. Bless me and make me a channel of blessing to others. Use me to spread the fragrance of Your love wherever I go. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Remember

This devotional based on Acts 28:1–5, reminds us that the challenges we face are not meant for our harm but can become opportunities for God to reveal His faithfulness, power, and glory. Just as God protected Paul and turned a moment of danger into a testimony that opened hearts to the Gospel, He is able to use every trial, misunderstanding, and difficulty in our lives for His divine purpose and our ultimate good.
