Follow God’s Path

“When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.” (Exodus 13:17–18)

Are you struggling between following God’s path and relying on your own understanding? My dear friend, even when His direction does not make sense, choose God’s path. He knows the way ahead and will fight your battles.

The passage in Exodus 13:17–14:31 describes the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea by the Israelites. After more than 400 years of slavery in Egypt, they were finally delivered by the mighty hand of God. Though they left Egypt thinking they were ready for battle, the Lord knew their true condition. Their hearts and minds had been shaped by generations of bondage, and they were not prepared to immediately face war.

Because of this, God did not lead them through the shorter route. Instead, He led them by the longer desert road toward the Red Sea. At first, in the excitement of deliverance, the people simply obeyed and began the journey without questioning God’s direction. But when they reached the Red Sea and saw Pharaoh’s army pursuing them, fear overtook them. Trapped between the sea before them and the enemy behind them, they became discouraged, began resenting their deliverance, and regretted leaving Egypt.

However, Moses came with the answer from the Lord, encouraged the people, and declared: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). The Lord guided Moses step by step, and the sea was parted into two, creating a path for His people. The enemy pursued and followed them into the very path that God had opened only for His people.

The Lord not only opened the way but also protected His people. He gave light to the Israelites while bringing darkness and confusion upon the Egyptians. During the last watch of the night, the Lord intervened powerfully, and the Egyptians realized that God Himself was fighting for Israel. By morning, the enemy had been completely destroyed—not one survived.

Had the Israelites taken the shorter route, they might have faced battles they were not ready for. Fear and discouragement could have driven them back into defeat. But by trusting the difficult path God chose, they witnessed His supernatural power and complete victory.

In the same way, God sometimes leads us through paths that seem longer, harder, or unnecessary. Yet the Lord, who knows the end from the beginning, understands what we are prepared for and what we are not. What appears to be a delay may actually be God’s protection and preparation.

When we obey His guidance, God brings victory in ways we could never accomplish through our own strength. Even when we do not fully understand His ways, we can trust that His plans are always good.

Today, whatever situation stands before you like the Red Sea, choose to follow God’s path rather than relying on your own understanding. He will guide you, fight for you, and bring you into complete deliverance.

Choose God’s path, taking hold of Psalm 65:11: “Your paths drip with abundance,” and be blessed!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I humbly come before You today and ask You to guide me in the right path for Your Name’s sake. From today onward, no matter the situation, I choose to follow Your path and guidance. Be with me and fight all the battles that come along the way. Thank You. Amen!
