Finding Favor in Every Season

"So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian." — Daniel 6:28

Are you facing situations where the enemy raises people against you? Do you keep facing challenges with gaining favor in the sight of others?

My dear friend, do not worry. As long as we live in this world, we need favor with people. God did not create us to live an independent life; He wants us to live in fellowship with Him and unity with others. When we seek Him faithfully and stay responsible wherever He has placed us, He will supply divine grace, and you will find favor with the right people at the right time—even amidst opposition.

In the book of Daniel, we repeatedly see something special about Daniel's life. The enemy raised situations and people against him to destroy both his spiritual walk and his role in the secular world. But nothing could prosper against him because they couldn't find any fault in him (Daniel 6:4), and above all, he kept moving forward as he found favor with every ruler he served. Times changed, seasons changed, and kingdoms fell, but Daniel found favor in all seasons, with all the kings (Daniel 6:28).

Taken as a young captive from Jerusalem to Babylon, Daniel was chosen to be trained for service under a foreign kingdom (Daniel 1:3-4). Though a captive, he repeatedly found favor with his overseers (Daniel 1:9). The Bible records his life explicitly for us to learn how this was possible:

  • He Was a Man of Prayer: He sought the Lord faithfully and consistently, refusing to compromise his time with God even when facing the lions' den (Daniel 6:10).

  • He Possessed an Excellent Spirit: He had wisdom, skill, and responsibility because the Lord granted him knowledge, and he was faithful to steward it well (Daniel 5:12, 1:17).

  • He Lived a Consecrated Life: He resolved in his heart not to defile himself with royal delicacies or a foreign lifestyle (Daniel 1:8).

Notice that Daniel was working in Babylon—a secular system. He was not serving in the temple as a Levite, but in a secular government. Yet, never once do we see him complaining about his circumstances or grumbling about his position. He knew God had placed him there for a purpose, so he skillfully served foreign kings while keeping himself completely faithful to the Lord. This commitment earned him favor in the sight of God—who addressed Daniel as a "man greatly beloved" (Daniel 9:23)—and by God's grace, he was promoted to greater heights (Daniel 2:48).

Today, we are admonished to learn from Daniel’s example. Wherever God has placed you, confirm your calling. If you are sure that God has positioned you there, embrace His plans for your life with gratitude—even if you are in a secular or challenging role.

Choose to praise God rather than grumbling (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Seek the Lord in prayer faithfully in all seasons (Colossians 4:2), and work diligently wherever He has placed you. Use your talents as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23), keeping yourself growing and updated, for Scripture promises that a person who excels in their work will stand before kings (Proverbs 22:29).

Perhaps God has placed you where you are for His glory, just as He used Daniel to be a witness so that foreign kings eventually glorified the God of Israel (Daniel 4:37, 6:26). Do not allow your circumstances to determine your faithfulness—let your faithfulness become your witness.

Be the light wherever God has placed you, fulfill your calling, and bring glory to God!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us remain faithful wherever You have placed us. Give me grace to live a consecrated life, seek You diligently, and serve with excellence. Grant me favor with the right people and wisdom in every situation. Let my life shine for You and bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
